The 5 Most Common Hidden Toxin Exposures
Trace what’s hiding in your home · Full Assessment Coming Summer 2026
Every day you breathe
You'll breathe an Olympic swimming pool of air this year — mostly indoors, where pollutants run 5–10× higher than outside.
Most homes have hidden toxins across five key areas — air, water, laundry, cookware, and fragrance. In 5 questions, get a first look at where your home stands — a preview of the full 80+ checkpoint Trace home health assessment launching soon.

Question 01 — Air Quality
Indoor air typically contains 5–10x more pollutants than outdoor air. A true HEPA filter captures particles down to 0.3 microns — including dust, pet dander, VOCs, and fine particulate matter.
Question 02 — Water Quality
Tap water often contains trace chlorine, fluoride, lead (from older pipes), and microplastics. The type of filter matters significantly. Note: a water softener alone does not filter contaminants — it only removes hardness minerals.
Question 03 — Daily Skin Contact
You're in contact with your sheets and clothing for 8–16 hours a day. Residual detergent stays in fabric after washing and absorbs directly through your skin — one of the highest daily chemical exposures in most homes.
Question 04 — Food Contact
When non-stick coatings are scratched or overheated above 500°F, they release PFAS compounds — a class of "forever chemicals" linked to hormone disruption, immune suppression, and cancer risk. This exposure goes directly into food.
Question 05 — Airborne Chemical Load
The word "fragrance" on a label can legally conceal up to 3,500 chemicals — most of them untested. Plug-in air fresheners, scented candles, and dryer sheets are among the highest sources of indoor VOCs and phthalates.
